Work on TeraWulf Morgantown Generating Station AI Campus in Newburg, MD has stalled. Reported capacity is 1,000 MW. TeraWulf is converting the former Morgantown coal-fired power plant (Charles County, on the Potomac River near Newburg) to natural gas to power a data center campus it describes as potentially Maryland's largest, with plans for up to 1GW of gas-derived generation across roughly 250-355 buildable acres. FERC approved TeraWulf's purchase of the plant in 2026 (ownership change only, not construction rights); the Charles County Planning Commission has twice recommended the Commissioners deny the required zoning text amendment, with a Commissioner vote still pending as of mid-2026.
