Western Digital Campus Data Center (Charlotte Drive lot split)

Plans have been filed for Western Digital Campus Data Center (Charlotte Drive lot split), a data center in San Jose, CA. San Jose city planners gave final approval (Aug 12, 2026) to subdividing Western Digital's 176.3-acre South San Jose tech campus into a 15.5-acre parcel on Charlotte Drive (between Raleigh Road and Lexington Avenue) and a 141.9-acre parcel WD retains at/near 5601 Great Oaks Parkway. The smaller, subdivided parcel is intended for a proposed 444,400 sq ft data center (existing building to be demolished) that Western Digital hopes another entity will develop; the city has opened a separate review of that data center proposal but no capacity (MW) figure or construction approval has been reported yet. Site has been a continuous tech campus since 1957 (IBM, then Hitachi GST, then WD). Sparked resident opposition over traffic, noise, energy and water demand despite being only a subdivision approval. Distinct site from the separately-proposed Oppidan/Rockpoint data center near Embedded Way/Hellyer Ave.
