Vermillion / Clay County data center inquiries (two unnamed companies)

A new data center, Vermillion / Clay County data center inquiries (two unnamed companies), has been announced in Vermillion, SD. Rumored (residents report). At a July 15, 2026 community conversation attended by more than 50 residents, Vermillion Area Chamber & Development Company leaders said two unnamed companies had contacted them and the Governor's Office of Economic Development about building a data center in the area. Officials said there is no proposal or ordinance yet, and residents have started a petition for a county moratorium. Not confirmed by the developer or local officials; location approximate.
