Fermi America Project Matador
Carson County, TX
Construction is under way on Fermi America Project Matador in Carson County, TX. The project is sized at 11,000 MW. 5,800-acre 'HyperGrid' energy-and-AI-data-center campus near Amarillo (Carson County), co-founded by Rick Perry and developed with the Texas Tech University System. Targets 11 GW total from a mix of natural gas (~50%), four Westinghouse AP1000 nuclear reactors (~40-45%), solar and battery storage. TCEQ granted preliminary approval for the first 6 GW natural-gas phase in November 2025 per Fermi's own press release; foundation/site work was underway as of October 2025. A tracker lists a separate 'Project Matador East' gas-plant phase, but no independent primary source was found naming it as a distinct project apart from the main Matador campus, so it is treated here as one project.
